Here are some of the winners and losers from Day 2.

Day 2 of NFL Draft reveals QB dominoes ready to fall
It’s not so much about how far they fall. Rather, the importance is where they land.
Will Levis and Hendon Hooker, a pair of quarterbacks with perceived first-round value, were finally selected Friday night in the NFL Draft. Their new teams’ decisions — along with other quarterback-centric evaluations around the league — could serve as teasers toward future movement at the position.

Fun fact: Lions QB Hendon Hooker backed up current Lions DB Emmanuel Moseley at QB when the two were in high school.

How Mekhi Blackmon fits with the Vikings
The final compensatory pick of the third round is the physical CB from USC, who will fit in Brian Flores’ aggressive defensive philosophy. Blackmon is a little light and below 6 feet, but makes up for it by battling receivers all the way down the field and fighting at the catch point, breaking up 15 passes in 2022. He won’t be fast or disciplined enough to cover top-tier receivers consistently, but expect him to take some chances by jumping routes and playing the QB's eyes.

Nine tight ends in 3 rounds
Cameron Latu makes it nine tight ends drafted in the first three rounds of the 2023 draft. The Alabama tight end will be a blocking piece first with the 49ers. He’s not an overwhelming athlete, but with George Kittle on the roster he won’t need to be. Latu is a steady pass catcher underneath and can add value there, but he can also be a U, an H-back or move around in all the different San Francisco run looks.
Tre Tucker joins a crowded group of Raiders slot WRs
With DeAndre Carter signed in free agency and Tre Tucker picked here, it may be time for Hunter Renfrow to start looking over his shoulder as the Raiders' top option in the slot. Tucker is noticeably small at 5-foot-8, and his 37-inch vertical leap isn’t enough to make up for the lack of catch radius, but Tucker provides speed and body control that this offense needed more of, and he may produce value as a returner, too.
Mekhi Blackmon stat to know
USC CB Mekhi Blackmon had a Pac-12-high 15 passes defended in 2022, the most in a single season by a Trojans defender since Adoree' Jackson had 16 in 2016.
Round 3, No. 102: Vikings draft USC CB Mekhi Blackmon
The Minnesota Vikings select USC CB Mekhi Blackmon with the No. 102 pick.
The Athletic NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler on Blackmon: A one-year starter at USC, Blackmon was the left outside cornerback in defensive coordinator Alex Grinch’s man-heavy scheme. After four solid seasons at Colorado, he transferred and was one of the few bright spots on the Trojans’ 2022 defense, leading the Pac-12 in passes defended (15).
A fluid athlete with average size, Blackmon has seen a lot of football, and it shows with his anticipation and confidence to be disruptive in coverage (allowed only one reception of 20-plus yards on 63 targets in 2022). Though he tends to play too physically, NFL coaches will appreciate his mental and competitive toughness at the position, especially in the run game.
What the 49ers are getting in Jake Moody (the first kicker!)
The 49ers begin their run of two of three picks to close the day with the top kicker on the board in Michigan kicker Jake Moody, the Groza winner in 2021 and a consensus All-American with a career-long of 59 yards and a gaggle of school records at Michigan – Moody hit 52 of a whopping 60 field goal attempts over the last two seasons with the Wolverines. Our Dane Brugler had a fourth/fifth grade on Moody – and this is right on the top fringe of that.

Cameron Latu stat to know
Alabama tight end Cameron Latu hauled in eight touchdown grabs as a junior in 2021, the most by a tight end in Crimson Tide history (Latu had four in 2022).
Round 3, No. 101: 49ers draft Alabama TE Cameron Latu
The San Francisco 49ers select Alabama TE Cameron Latu with the No. 101 pick.
The Athletic NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler on Latu: A two-year starter at Alabama, Latu was a combo tight end in offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien’s offense, splitting his snaps inline (45 percent) and detached (55 percent) as a senior. A former linebacker, he transitioned to full-time tight end in 2019. He proved to be a reliable outlet for quarterback Bryce Young the past two seasons with 80.4 percent of his college receptions resulting in a first down or touchdown.
Although there aren’t many explosive plays on his tape, Latu runs his routes with excellent pacing and smooth movements in and out of his breaks and at the catch point. As a blocker, he is physical into engagement and can seal at the second level, but his handwork, angles and finishing strength lack consistency, especially in the run game.
Round 3, No. 100: Raiders draft Cincinnati WR Tre Tucker
The Las Vegas Raiders select Cincinnati WR Tre Tucker with the No. 100 pick.
The Athletic NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler on Tucker: A one-year starter at Cincinnati, Tucker worked exclusively out of the slot in former offensive coordinator Gino Guidugli’s spread RPO offense. His offensive snaps and production improved each season with career highs as a senior captain.
A balanced athlete, Tucker displays the slick speed to control his throttle and uncover underneath. His lack of size and length forces quarterbacks to be pinpoint, and he must improve his route nuance to avoid crowded catch points.
How Siaki Ika fits with the Browns
A major piece of fixing Cleveland’s problems in stopping the run between the tackles is changing the body types on the interior, and Siaki Ika is as big as big-bodied DTs get. At 335 pounds, Ika is decently fleet of foot and exercises his power by locking blockers out. He’s not going to produce much in the backfield, but he can affect the game without logging a stat.
Jake Moody stat to know
Michigan kicker Jake Moody made (52) and attempted (60) more field goals over the past two seasons than any other FBS kicker.

Context clues
49ers owner Jed York did the honors of tipping this pick of Jake Moody.
What the Commanders are getting in Ricky Stromberg
A very powerful center, especially up top, who run blocks with everything he’s got – Ricky Stromberg has been a starting guard and a center, but should have no problem sliding into a center job in the NFL as a hard-working interior lineman who showed a lot of heady stuff in protection. Solid agility. He doesn’t get bullied much and will be a quality pro on some level for a while.
Round 3, No. 99: 49ers draft Michigan K Jake Moody
The San Francisco 49ers select Michigan K Jake Moody with the No. 99 pick.
Moody was the No. 1 kicker in this draft class, according to The Athletic NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler. He had a fourth-to-fifth-round grade.
