The Ft Bend Co Jail is a detention center located at 1410 Ransom Rd Richmond, TX which is operated locally by the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Fort Bend County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Richmond Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Texas here.

The Inmate Processing Unit (IPU) includes Intake, Property, Imaging, Transport, Classification, and Bonding. The IPU is responsible for the intake, processing and release of all adult offenders committed or detained in this facility. Intake includes medical screening and risk assessment to determine the appropriate classification level and housing of inmates. The IPU initiates the development of the inmate jail records ensuring all valid and necessary information is included in the jail management system.

The Imaging section of the IPU is responsible for determining the valid identification of each inmate, the recording of photographs, fingerprints, and markings specific to each person; along with verifying and entering accurate arrest, charge, and disposition information into the State’s database.

The Property section of the IPU is responsible for the documenting and safekeeping of all offender property as well as the issuance of detention clothing and bedding items to the offender upon arrival to the Detention Facility.

The main focus of the Housing Unit is the Care, Custody and Control of persons committed to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility. Proper housing of all persons that enter this facility is obtained according to the classification criteria set forth by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. Responsibilities also include the supervision of inmate feeding, recreation, dispensing of medication, inmate workers and the cleanliness of the inmate living areas and facility. Also, the Housing Units monitor compliance and participation of inmates in various programs such as religious services, educational programs, court ordered work release programs, and treatment programs. In addition, the Housing Units conduct supervision of the inmate population who are mentally ill and ensure their health and well-being while confined. The Housing Units also ensure that every inmate abides by the rules and regulations established by the Detention Facility.

There are approximately 36 officers on duty at any given time on each shift. Day Shift has the majority of their shift duties taken up with inmate movement outside of the facility. This includes court appearances, medical procedures, work programs and transports to various other agencies. Evening Shift has a majority of their shift duties taken up with inmate movement inside the facility. They supervise the inmate programs such as religious services, drug and alcohol programs, special tours and educational programs. The Night Shift has their shift duties taken up with preparing inmates to be transferred to the Texas Department of Corrections, the State Jail system, and other agencies and services outside the County.

Each of the three shifts has specialized training to handle emergencies and disturbances that occur inside of the Detention Facility, whether it be caused by inmates, visitors, or the weather.
